Eliza Carthy leads this concert celebrating 80 years of Topic Records, the oldest independent record label in the world and the home of British folk music.
With its origins in the Workers’ Music Association, through the mid-20th century folk revival to the present day, Topic Records has established itself as not only the pre-eminent British folk music label but one widely respected throughout the world. Tonight’s concert captures that fiercely independent spirit with artists from across the label’s history, including Martin Carthy, Lisa Knapp, Sam Lee, Alasdair Roberts and Olivia Chaney plus further special guest artists to be announced.
A number of these artists appear on Vision & Revision: The first 80 years of Topic Records, a double album released in May. The record sees a host of musicians from the UK folk scene covering a song of their choice from Topic’s extraordinary back catalogue.
